Loch Leven nominated for prestigious award

Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) and its partners have been nominated for a prestigious Natura 2000 award for work benefitting Loch Leven, its visitors, and the local community. The loch is one of four Natura sites nominated across Europe in the socio-economic category.

Year of Young People 2018: Funding Awarded to Wild Projects Designed and Delivered by Young People

Eleven projects from across Scotland, designed to encourage young people’s interest in nature during the Year of Young People, have been chosen to receive a total of £20,000 by the Future Routes Fund. The projects are ideas developed by young people to help them get more involved with the environment and local wildlife throughout Scotland, in rural and urban areas, with the use of activities including film, music, art, volunteering, and outdoor recreation.
New guidance to help communities and fish farm developers

High quality visuals have been required as part of the environmental information for new fish farm proposals for many years, but they can be difficult to produce. New guidance published today by Scottish Natural Heritage will help the aquaculture industry with these visuals and ensure local communities and planning authorities have a better understanding of the visual impacts of proposed fish farms.
Scottish Natural Heritage reduces carbon emissions by 20 per cent over past two years

Following 2009 climate change legislation by the Scottish Government that requires public bodies to contribute to the delivery of national targets including reducing carbon emissions by 80 per cent by 2050, Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) put into place measures to ensure we would not only meet, but exceed this target. SNH has achieved a nearly 20 per cent reduction over the last two years, far surpassing expectations.
Scotland’s woodland and farmland birds increase, as upland birds decline

Scotland’s woodland and farmland bird numbers have increased over the past two decades, but during this time, upland birds have faced decline. This is according to a Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) report published today, The Official Statistic for Terrestrial Breeding Birds.

New lowland deer expert panel appointed

A new panel of experts is being established by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) to examine the complex issues related to deer management in the Scottish lowlands. The work of the panel will contribute to the Scottish Government’s ongoing review of deer management across Scotland.
