Your views on a special place for nature
Local people are being asked to share their thoughts on plans for the future management of a National Nature Reserve (NNR) in the Cairngorms.
Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) wants to hear from people with an interest in Invereshie and Inshriach NNR, to help prepare a new ten-year management plan for the reserve.
National Nature Reserves are special places where people can enjoy the best of Scotland’s nature, and Invereshie and Inshriach NNR is a popular destination for walkers, photographers and wildlife lovers visiting the Cairngorms, as well as the local community. The reserve shelters internationally-rare and endangered plants, as well as iconic Scottish birds including golden eagles.
Wayne Fitter, Reserve Manager for SNH, said: “Invereshie and Inshriach NNR is a very special place to come and connect with nature, and we’re really grateful to all the people who help us to keep it that way. We want to hear the views of as many people who use the reserve as possible. For example, we want to know what they love about it; if there’s anything that could improve their experience on the reserve; also what people would like to learn about the Reserve and ways of doing this.”
One of nine NNRs within the Cairngorms National Park, Invereshie and Inshriach lies on the north-western edge of the Cairngorm Mountains, close to the village of Kincraig. The Reserve sits in a magnificent landscape where pinewood plantation merges into naturally regenerating Caledonian forest, through moorland and alpine heath, and culminating at the peak of the Munro, Sgor Gaoith.
SNH has published the draft plan and a consultation leaflet on its nature.scot website, and hosted a free drop-in event on Monday (16th April) at Kincraig Community Hall for people to discuss the proposals.
