The Big Bog Gallery - Flanders Moss to take part in arts festival
Flanders Moss National Nature Reserve near Stirling is to become an outdoor art gallery as part of the Forth Valley Art Beat festival.
The Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) reserve, which boasts the largest lowland raised bog in Britain, has proved inspirational for five artists whose artwork will be on display around the boardwalk path.
David Pickett, Flanders Moss reserve manager said:
“We’re delighted that Flanders Moss is to be one of the venues for Open Studio week. The boardwalk path will be turned into an outdoor gallery and the artworks will be on display around the site. We want people to come and explore this special place and to see the wonderful art it’s inspired.”
As well as being able to view the artwork, weekend visitors during the event will be able to talk to David and his staff about the bog and its wildlife.
The Forth Valley Art Beat Open Studio event runs from 10 to18 June 2017. Over 140 artists take part in a variety of events at 80 different locations across Central Scotland. Find out more by visiting the website http://forthvalleyopenstudios.com/
Flanders Moss is a vast expanse of all things damp and wonderful. From a distance, the perfectly formed domes of peat rise gently from their surroundings. Closer up, squelchy mats of sphagnum moss carpet the reserve with their swirling colours, while adders and lizards bask in the sunshine and snipe and stonechat call overhead.
