SNH event in Dunfermline next week
People across Scotland and local people in Fife are being invited along to the reception held by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) to discuss how to engage better with young people about nature.
SNH is the Scottish Government's advisor on managing, enjoying, understanding and sustainably using Scotland's nature and landscape.
The event will take place at Carnegie Conference Centre in Dunfermline on 24 November from 2 to 4pm. But SNH is also asking people to join in on social media by sending in their questions or comments on Twitter or Facebook beforehand. These will then be answered during the afternoon reception.
Dr Susan Walker, SNH’s deputy chairman, will host the event along with fellow board member Susan Murray and Fife Operations Manager Katherine Leys.
The public is invited to attend the reception, and SNH has also invited Fife members of the Youth Parliament, MSPs, local councillors, and representatives from across the environment sector. Before discussions begin, Dougie Pollok from SNH, Christine Bell from Communities Along the Carron Association, and Alison Hardie from Young Scot will give insights and practical tips on how we all can more effectively involve young people in nature.
Susan Walker said: “Our aim is to create a forum for open and frank discussion on how to improve how we work with young people. We’re really keen to hear all the questions and comments from the public, and to have the chance to discuss matters with everyone who’s interested – whether that’s in person or by using social media.
“We’re particularly interested in hearing from young people, as this is a group that is sometimes hard to reach, although making sure Scotland’s nature thrives is so important to their lives. It’s not only important because of climate change and a sustainable future, but it’s also fantastic – and healthy – for everyone to get out and enjoy our beautiful countryside!”
The event is free with tea and coffee provided. Places are limited though, so booking is advised. For more information or to book a place, email cupar_admin@snh.gov.uk
To send a question or comment to be answered or discussed at the reception, send a tweet and mention @SNH_TWEETS.
