Shetlanders invited to an SNH reception at Islesburgh
People across Shetland are invited to an informal reception, held by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), to find out about SNH’s work on the islands, ask questions and give feedback to the nature and environment organisation.
SNH is also asking people to join in on social media by sending in their questions or comments beforehand on Twitter or Facebook.
The event is being held at Lerwick’s Islesburgh Community Centre, from 7pm to 9pm on Tuesday 21 February.
SNH is the Scottish Government's advisor on managing, enjoying, understanding and sustainably using Scotland's nature and landscape.
Ian Ross, SNH’s Chairman, will host the event along with fellow board member, Cath Denholm, and area manager, Kristin Scott. The reception will follow discussions earlier in the day about how the design of places can encourage people to be more active and make the most of the outdoors.
Ian said: “It’s so important for our physical and mental health to spend time outdoors, enjoying nature. As well as improving our health, walking and cycling means we use our cars less, helping to reduce carbon emissions. The reception will give people in Shetland the chance to talk with senior staff about these important topics, as well as the wider work of SNH.
“This is a really useful way for us to keep in touch with what the public feels is important in our work. We hope many people will be able to come along, and we look forward to meeting them. We’re delighted that Daisy Narayanan, Acting Director of Sustrans Scotland, is also able to join us at the reception.” Sustrans is a charity that promotes low carbon travel.
If You are unable to attend, questions and comments can be sent to SNH via Twitter (@SNH_Tweets or #SNHengage) or Facebook
The event is free and tea and coffee will be provided. For more information call 01595 693345 or email north@snh.gov.uk
