Scottish Natural Heritage hails successful open event
Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) has welcomed the community turnout after a meeting in Kirkwall, Orkney, on Wednesday evening.
Around 20 locals attended the event at the Ayre Hotel in Kirkwall.
Ian Ross, the SNH chairman, was host, and said: “The open events are a vital part of our role – they are held throughout Scotland to ensure that local people have the chance to visit and ask us about our work.
“It was a success and we were delighted at the response we saw in Kirkwall; we are committed to listening.
“It was an opportunity for informal discussion about our work in the area and allowed people the chance to raise issues relating to the natural environment which are of interest to them.”
It was the latest in a series of events organised by SNH. Mr Ross hosted, along with Kristin Scott, area manager for Orkney, and local SNH staff.
Mr Ross also hosted a round table discussion on management of the marine environment with invited representatives of marine industries and other interests.
SNH is committed to working with partners to ensure the area’s rich marine life and habitats are recognised and continue to contribute to sustaining a viable and thriving community.
