Really wild cycle at Loch Leven
The second annual Really Wild Cycle around Loch Leven kicks off this summer with six free family events.
Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) nature reserve staff will guide participants around the loch, exploring the wildlife, views and history of this spectacular national nature reserve, as well as taking time for fun activities along the way.
The ride is 18.5 kilometres long and suitable for adults and children who are capable at cycling at a gentle pace with plenty of breaks. Participants will need to bring along their own bike, helmet, a packed lunch, and a puncture repair kit/spare inner tubes. Clothing for the weather and binoculars are recommended.
Tom Cole, SNH’s assistant reserve officer, said:
“This event should be great fun for families. The path around Loch Leven has been a big hit with cyclists and walkers. If you haven’t checked it out yet, our Really Wild Cycle will be a wonderful way to see the path all in one go.”
There are six dates, all Fridays, to join in the fun: 8 July, 15 July, 22 July, 29 July, 5 August, and the 12 August. The event takes place from 10am to 4pm.
Places are limited, so booking is essential. Call the reserve office on 01577 864 439 to book a place. The ride begins at the SNH office at the Pier car park.
Loch Leven is Scotland’s largest lowland loch and one of the most important sites for waterfowl in Britain. Its unique environment attracts not only the largest concentration of breeding ducks anywhere in the UK, but also many thousands of migratory ducks, geese and swans every autumn and winter, as well as boasting an interesting variety of wildlife, plants and trees.
