Really wild cycle at Loch Leven

A new free family event kicks off in July with a Really Wild Cycle around Loch Leven.

Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) and Sustrans will guide participants around the loch, exploring the wildlife, views and history of this spectacular national nature reserve, as well as taking time for fun activities along the way.

The ride is 18.5 kilometres long and suitable for adults and children who are capable at cycling at a gentle pace. Participants will need to bring along their own bike, helmet, packed lunch, and waterproofs for the day. If you have your own binoculars bring them but some will be available to borrow.

SNH Reserve Manager, Neil Mitchell, said:

“We’re really excited about this new event – it should be great fun for families. The new path around Loch Leven has been a big hit with cyclists and walkers this year. If you haven’t checked it out yet, our Really Wild Cycle will be a wonderful way to see the path all in one go!”

Kelly Fry, Sustrans Bike Officer added,

“This is an exciting new event which we hope will encourage families to get out on the bikes and enjoy a free range lifestyle.”

There are two dates to join: Friday, 10 July, or Tuesday, 28 July, both from 10am to 4pm.

Places are limited, so booking is essential. Call the reserve office on 01577 864 439 to book a place. The ride begins at the SNH office at the Pier car park.

Loch Leven is Scotland’s largest lowland loch and one of the most important sites for waterfowl in Britain. Its unique environment attracts not only the largest concentration of breeding ducks anywhere in the UK, but also many thousands of migratory ducks, geese and swans every autumn and winter, as well as boasting an interesting variety of wildlife, plants and trees.
