outdoor art trail at reserve

An outdoor art trail has been unveiled at an Argyll National Nature Reserve (NNR), Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) has confirmed.

Taynish NNR will host the free outdoor art trail along the all-ability Mill path to the shore.

Among the artists are international sculptor Rob Mulholland – and, from Artmap Argyll, Louise Oppenheimer, Sian MacQueen, and Lesley Burr.

Rob Mulholland recently produced an art installation to commemorate the centenary of the First World War which was used as a trailer for the BBC. He is currently working on a statement piece for the entrance to Cuningar Loop in Glasgow.

Taynish has previously hosted four of Rob’s sculptures which were so well-received they feature again this year.

Caroline Anderson of SNH’s Lochgilphead office said: “It has been a joy working with the Artmap Argyll artists to bring this art trail to Taynish NNR.

“You can see from the works on show that the artists really understood the environment the art work was to be displayed in and as a result they created some beautiful site-specific pieces.”

Louise Oppenheimer is a member of the British Tapestry Group and gets her inspiration from nature, replicating the colours and textures in tapestries.

Sian MacQueen graduated from Glasgow School of Art with a degree in Fine Arts. This award winning artist is inspired by the landscape of Argyll which frequently features in her work.

Lesley Burr, also a Glasgow School of Art graduate, has exhibited her drawings and paintings all over the UK. For the Mill exhibition she has created two glass and porcelain mosaics which are sympathetic to the surrounding environment.

The exhibition also features works by Kirsty Brady, Jane Walker, Lucinda Hopkinson, Margaret Kerr, Melanie Chmielewska and Jane Smith.

The free exhibition runs from 26 May to 29 August and is open at all times.
