Letter from SNH Chief Executive to Kate Forbes, MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch

In response to a letter from Kate Forbes MSP about her work to reduce plastic pollution in Scotland and the Final Straw campaign , SNH's Chief Executive, Francesca Osowska, provided the following reply:

Dear Kate

Final Straw campaign

Thank you for your recent letter outlining your work across Scotland focussing on the impact of plastics on the natural environment. This is a cause with which you can be assured of our complete support. Whilst plastic straws are not a common feature across our offices, we are committed to reducing their use so that SNH properties are plastic straw free.

It is certainly the case that the recent Blue Planet documentary has caught the attention of the nation and in particular the detrimental impact that plastic is having on our wonderful natural environments.

Since my recent appointment as CEO of Scottish Natural Heritage I have started a conversation within the organisation about how we can move to significantly reduce our use of plastics, including those used by our suppliers. This has caught the imagination of our staff who have brought forward a number of suggestions that our Senior Leadership Team are now focussed on progressing. Our wider efforts to reduce plastic usage will contribute to the shared outcomes we seek.

We wish you every success in this initiative as it is good for nature and good for Scotland’s land and sea.

Yours sincerely

 Francesca Osowska

Chief Executive
