The event will take place on Tuesday 14th July from 10.30am to 3.30pm at the main reserve car park at Kinshaldy.

There will be a series of free walks throughout the day where visitors can learn more about the reserve’s wildlife:

  • 11.15am – Butterfly walk with Butterfly Conservation Scotland. Spot the wide range of butterflies that can be found at Tentsmuir NNR and learn more about them.
  • 1.30pm – Big Bug Safari. An event for all the family, come on a guided tour of the reserve to find a wide variety of bugs and insects with fun and interactive activities along the way.

These walks are free, but booking is essential and can be done via the Tentsmuir NNR Facebook page or by emailing Marijke.Leith@nature.scot.

There will also be a selection of children’s activities and crafts throughout the day, from building a ladybird house to making a shell butterfly, as well as a Big Beach Clean at 2pm with all equipment provided.

Marijke Leith, NatureScot’s reserve manager, said: “Tentsmuir is a special place and our open day is a great opportunity to connect with nature on your doorstep and get to know the reserve and its wildlife. From raptor identification to children’s crafts and expert butterfly walks, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The forecast is looking promising so why not bring a picnic and make a day of it!”

The walks and activities are free, but entrance to the car park costs £4 with card and coins accepted.
