Highland fling for wildcats in Alford

Revellers are being invited to the fourth Highland Tiger Fling at Alford, Aberdeenshire, on Saturday 4 June.

Tickets are £10 for the event at Tullynessie and Forbes Hall which starts at 7.30pm and finishes around 11pm.

Proceeds are in aid of Scottish Wildcat Action (SWA) a conservation project headed by SNH and involving more than 20 organisations.

SWA is working to create safe places for wildcats in six priority areas of Morvern; Strathpeffer; Strathbogie; Strathavon; Northern Strathspey and the Angus Glens as a starting point for their longer-term recovery across the highlands.

The Highland Tiger Fling comprises an auction and raffle for the over-18 audience who are invited to bring their own refreshments and food.

Auction items include a baseball cap signed by Brian May of Queen from his ‘Save Me’ Trust; Alan Sinclair’s hand-engraved glass with a wildcat head and shoulders; a signed poster of the 2016 Red Arrows Team; a flight for three with a piloted four seat aircraft over the Moray Firth area; a falconry lesson OR a gun dog lesson at Gleneagles hotel, and a trip up Cairngorm with a reindeer herder to meet the herd.

As well as the raffle and a bottle tombola there is a comedy act in the form of Patrice MacPherson….hairdresser to the stars.

Tickets (bought in advance of the event) or donations contact highlandtigerfling@gmail.com or phone 019755 63805/07920 169398.

Notes to editors

SWA has conducted the biggest national survey of wild-living cats in Scotland with 345 trail cameras being used to monitor populations over the winter. This information is being used for targeted Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate and Release of feral cats and obvious hybrids to halt further interbreeding with wildcats. This is in addition to carrying out ground-breaking research into wildcat genetics and disease. And this vital information will be used in the coming years to target extensive conservation work across the Scottish Highlands.

Scottish Natural Heritage, the University of Edinburgh’s Royal (Dick) Veterinary School and National Museums Scotland are among the 22 organisations which stand behind Scottish Wildcat Action (SWA).
