Free geology and red deer events at Corrie Fee

Two exciting, free events are taking place soon at Corrie Fee National Nature Reserve.

On Saturday, September 17, take a walk with Scottish Natural Heritage’s (SNH’s) professional geologist, a reserve officer and a ranger to see how the area has been shaped by ice and other forces on the Corrie Fee Ice Legacy Walk.

Then, on Sunday, 9 October, come along to the Clash of the Titans. Join a deer stalker and ranger to watch and listen to the rutting red deer stags in the glen, as they round up their harem of hinds and warn off rivals.

Shona Smith, SNH area officer, said:

“Corrie Fee is a rare place in Scotland – one where there are still spots that have been untouched by humans. Both of these walks will give you a special look into this unique area.”

Both walks must be booked by calling the Ranger Base on 01575 550233.

Corrie Fee was one of the last areas in Britain to be changed by humans. There’s plenty to see, with red squirrels in the forest, mountain hares and deer, and rare, arctic plants like tiny wooly willow shrubs. The Cairngorm plateau, the UK’s largest area of high mountain terrain, where there are spectacular views and a chance to spot dotterel, ptarmigan and snow bunting, is immediately above the reserve. Reach Corrie Fee from Kirriemuir by following the B955 for 9.3 miles north to Clova Hotel at the end of Glen Clova, then turning left over a small bridge and following the road for 3.1 miles to the Forestry Commission Scotland car park at Glen Doll.
