Free animal tracks workshop at Forvie this weekend
Places are still available for a free animal tracks and signs workshop at Forvie national nature reserve this Saturday, October 15.
Join wildlife expert, Dan Puplett, to see signs of where wildlife has been and what they’ve been up to at Forvie. Dan is a certified wildlife tracker, a conservationist and outdoor educator.
Annabel Drysdale, SNH reserve manager at Forvie, said:
“This event is a fun way for people of any age to hone their observation skills and learn more about local wildlife. It’s a great chance to be a wildlife detective for the afternoon!”
The workshop must be booked in advance. To secure a place, call 01358 751300. The workshop takes place outdoors, so participants should dress for the weather.
The Forvie dunes stretch along the North Sea coast, a towering sandy desert. In some places, tenacious marram grass has tamed the moving sand and the dunes have been anchored into patches of dune heath. Lapping against the sand, the Ythan estuary runs along the edge of the nature reserve and is home to the largest colony of breeding eider ducks in the UK. People have been using this beautiful area for over 8000 years, but it's been a constant battle with the sand. The ancient church at Forvie was smothered during a massive sand storm in the 15th century. For more on Forvie, see www.nnr-scotland.org.uk/forvie .
