Discover Loch Leven with a fun family day

There’s plenty of free fun in store for families at one of Scotland’s most popular nature reserves, Loch Leven, on Sunday, 27 May.

Neil Mitchell, Scottish Natural Heritage’s (SNH) Loch Leven reserve manager, said:

“We’re excited to welcome everyone to our Discovery Day at Loch Leven. We’ve hosted this fun family event since 2005, and every year it’s fantastic to see visitors get up close to underwater beasties, insects and moths and find out more about birds, native squirrels, dragonflies and bats. We hope as many people as possible will come along and discover all Loch Leven has to offer.”

On Discovery Day, visitors can get involved in crafts, face-painting, quizzes, story-telling, and wildlife and nature displays. SNH staff will be on hand so visitors can find out more about how Loch Leven is managed to encourage more people to connect with nature, alongside a range of organisations that help make Loch Leven a great place for visitors and wildlife, including River Forth Fisheries Trust and RSPB.

Teas, savouries and baking will be provided by Portmoak SWI. The event starts at 12 noon.

For more information on Discovery Day, please call the SNH reserve office on 01738 458609.

Loch Leven is Scotland’s largest lowland loch. Its attracts not only the largest concentration of breeding ducks anywhere in the UK, but also many thousands of migratory ducks, geese and swans every autumn and winter, as well as plenty of other wildlife, plants and trees.
