Prize-winning nature photos from Aberdeen secondary pupils will be part of a free touring exhibition around North East Scotland this spring.
The photographs will be exhibited at the David Welch Winter Gardens in Duthie Park from 12 to 25 April 2014; Muir of Dinnet National Nature Reserve from 28 April to 9 May; St Cyrus National Nature Reserve from 9 May to 23 May; and Forvie National Nature Reserve from 23 May to 6 June.
Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) ran a photography competition for Aberdeen secondary students last year to celebrate the Year of Natural Scotland. The winners won a workshop at Muir of Dinnet nature reserve with one of Scotland’s top photographers, SNH’s Lorne Gill. Winners will also receive their framed pictures after the exhibitions.
Lorne judged the entries in three categories: Scottish wildlife (any plant, animal or bird except pets or domestic livestock), Scottish landscapes, or Scottish seascapes. There were two categories for S1-S3 and S4-S6 pupils.
Lorne said:
“I was really impressed by all the pictures submitted for the contest – it made the judging quite a difficult job! The photos really show off both Scotland’s nature and the students’ talent. I hope people will come along to one of the exhibitions to see for themselves the fantastic pictures taken by these Aberdeen pupils.”
ENDS
The Year of Natural Scotland was a celebration of Scotland's outstanding natural beauty, and was a partnership between SNH, the Scottish Government, VisitScotland, EventScotland, and a range of public and private sector organisations.
